I received an email from a female client
I asked if I could share it, she said “of course, but only if you believe it’ll help someone else who feels the way I did”.
I know it will, so here it is:
“Pauline, I grew up a fat girl.
I always wanted to lose weight to feel great. I hated my body and I knew my parents were embarrassed about their daughter.
I’ll never forget how l just wanted to die at the dress store.
When it was time for high school prom…every young woman’s highlight…
They didn’t have my size, I tried to squeeze myself into size large while I was, i don’t even know how many x bigger…the dress tore right open like an explosion had occurred, I was mortified! Not only did I not fit it, my mom had to pay for the dress I couldn’t wear.
In my 20s & 30s I was always on a weight loss diet and doing cardio 7 days a week twice a day, I was constantly hungry and scared of losing control. I had to lose the weight, I just had to stick to it.
January-May where my fat loss months to get in bikini shape for summer. I made it some times but no matter how many lbs I lost and even after I finally achieved my body goal to fit into a size 4 I always regained all the fat over the summer. Every September I gave up, the holiday seasons became a waiting time for a New Year’s resolution..then that started to fade out too…. I lost faith in believing in myself, I had disappointed myself by giving up too many times it felt like a joke to even mention “ let’s commit one last time, this time no quit I promise”…. Yeah right… too many times of not following through, why even bother…I had lost trust in myself altogether. I didn’t want to face one more self defeat again, it just hurt too much.
I wanted to enjoy my fit body and not be so strict..I didn’t know how to keep a healthy balance around food, I was all or nothing, maintaining my new body was impossible, why couldn’t I just have ONE slice of a pizza, why did I have to be a pig and devour the whole pie, right?
I looked good in my clothes when I was my thinnest, but in underwear I had no shape, I wasn’t toned, I didn’t train to gain muscle, I was terrified to end up bigger & BULKY.
Then one day I saw a fitness magazine article about you Pauline, you talked about FighterDiet and training your body to build a lean, strong physique for life. You weren’t on a diet you said, diet meant way of life and you lived it. And loved it. It was a lifestyle for you to train, eat healthy end simply being happy in doing that with no plan on stopping the daily practice.
I signed up for my first FighterDiet challenge, you taught me how to train with weights, how to POBO as you now call it, I got in the best shape ever, this time I even got visible obliques and sculpted shoulders! I was on a high!
I was hooked on fitness life. So I thought until the 12 weeks challenge came to the end. I recall you reminding all women in the group to stay focused, to keep it up and not fall back into old habits, to remember what got us started.
I thought it was gonna be easy to maintain my results, my plan was to relax for a week on vacation to celebrate my victory over my former fat body, then go back to the fitness routine and keep building my body lean for life.
Let’s just say I ignored all the self sabotage preventive eating protocols I had been practicing in the FighterDiet challenge, after so long time depriving myself from “ luxury treats” I just wanted to indulge in them more than ever. I was shocked to see how quickly my old fat body returned and then some. I didn’t know what to do, I was stuck in that action paralysis you mentioned would likely hit our minds unless we planned on how to survive in the after diet life…
I kept signing up challenge after challenge, I learned more and more, one thing was that these programs served as “the right now protocol” to practice just like an athlete has a workout plan for each season.
The community in the FighterDiet challenge was amazing, to have likeminded women all wanting to get fit and healthy motivated me to show up and check in every Monday.
Then, the pandemic hit, my gym closed down, lockdowns and work life stopped, everyone including myself was stranded at home trying to stay sane. I started to drink and I stopped caring, the chips bags and pizza cartons and ice cream became the daily diet, I didn’t work out for months. That turned into over a year…. When life returned to normal I was over 100 lbs heavier. I had become a 5’3 300 lbs woman…. I was devastated.
I decided I had to get back to the FighterDiet community, go find my old warrior family and start my journey back to my former fit self.
I went to the FighterDiet.com signup page to join the next challenge, but everything was closed, no admission open.
Then I heard from my former challenge participants that you had killed the whole FighterDiet community, quit on everyone and left all behind with no care or compassion. I believed what I heard, I got so angry with you, you were just a fraud and a scammer like every other fitness coach in the business.
Here I was, with no help no support and no plan on how to manage. I was filled with hatred and wanted to tell you how you destroyed so many people’s lives by not caring enough to stay and be there.
I spent another year with no exercise and no healthy nutrition, I gained another 50 lbs, all this out “ in the freedom” not in lockdown.
I turned 40, I was 350 lbs now, I couldn’t walk without having to stop for air. I went to my doctor for a yearly checkup and thought it wasn’t gonna be that bad but..I was morbidly obese. My blood pressure was 170/100. My resting heart rate was at 110. My blood work showed I had type 2 diabetes, my triglycerides were around 200, my liver enzymes were elevated and my kidneys were shutting down. “You need to change your lifestyle or you’ll not have a life to live” my doctor told me…. I was shocked…scared…I didn’t want to die young.
On the way home in my car I got a text from one of the FighterDiet warriors, she sent me a link to a podcast you had self recorded. You seemed to speak from the heart, you shared why you left the fitness body transformation challenge and serving the yoyo diet culture. You expressed how you felt about the body ideal obsession anf why you didn’t want to be part of it anymore.
You openly shared your life story, how you had hated your body, the chase on perfection and the self criticism, body shaming and feeling worthless, inferior and that you had hated yourself for not living up to your own ideals. There was so much fearless depth and rawness in that voice recording I found myself speechless.
The next few days I caught up with your self development and your life direction, I was shocked to hear you had left the states to start from nothing, your business had been destroyed by hackers, but you said it was a sign from the universe to take the leap of faith, leave all behind to start again from the ground up.
I reflected on all this, I listened two more times, and in that moment I felt so close to you Pauline, I felt like you spoke from within my soul. I felt like we were one soul with different bodies. I just started to cry and couldn’t stop, it wasn’t tears of sadness, it was tears of.. coming home? Being seen and heard not judged, not shamed or criticized…I just wanted to find you Pauline and tell you how much I loved you and understood you and FELT YOUR LOVE & compassion.
That was when I had my first “universe moment” as you call it… I felt vibrations all over my body and I was filled with clarity and peace of mind and joy and gratitude. I knew this was it. I knew my path to take. I wasn’t alone. I had you in my corner, you didn’t know it yet, I hadn’t found you yet, but it didn’t matter, I knew you knew somehow….
After a few months on my own, committing to one day at a time, to give myself grace, patience and do the best I could, not be so hard on myself or expect perfection, I realized I wanted that coach check in, presence and support from you again. This time with a whole other kind of intention: I wanted a sparring partner for my personal self relationship. Like a counselor for my self development. Someone who would help me stay in good terms with all parts of myself. I was longing for a committed partnership to last a long time, a friendship for building myself up to be my own best friend…and that’s why I had to write this email to you Pauline..sorry for sending you a book…I know you’re busy…but it’s so important to me that you know that your willingness to be so open, transparent, real, authentic, and fearless about what people will think of you and judge you for, like I judged you for following your heart and to lead from your heart in your personal life and in your business life even though you knew people would interpret it as you choosing selfishness over care for your community, all this brought me into that moment of crystal clear clarity and I wouldn’t have found myself to that would it not have been for YOU.
I can’t thank you enough, I tune into your coaching calls and video classes every day, you have so much to offer the world and I really really want everyone to know how special you are to people like me.
I doubt you’ll read this email..if you don’t it’s ok, I’ll keep up listening to you and follow along your workout videos and do my humming meditation with you, even the 8 min laugh hiit with you every week, because all YOU in my life makes me able to LOVE MYSELF.
That is the greates gift a human can gift another human I believe….
I’m down 100 lbs, I got 50 more to go, but this time I’m not in a rush, I’m following your advice to enjoy the daily practice and not wait for “ the final product” anymore. It has liberated me from that impatience that leads to frustration and ends with quits. I look forward to the every day for the rest of my life with you in my life. Pauline, I’m forever in debt for helping me to freedom from my worst enemy myself and I am forever grateful that you LEAD my example, and choose happiness and self love over meeting expectations of others. 10 Tips for Self Acceptance
Accept it feels like you’re losing control when you let go of what appears to be ‘to have control’
Accept healthy eating for life will be like practicing a diet project until you feel confident that you can trust yourself!
Remember you need ‘a diet’ until you die to fuel your body and mind, it’s time to want to love the one you choose!
Start small, start changing your daily eating without that ‘start over’ mentality. You don’t restart life, you keep living, the same goes for fitness and nutrition.
Eating well is like a muscle, it gets stronger the more you practice it and the longer you keep it up the stronger you feel and look.
Eliminate your food elimination list from your life! It’s time to ask yourself what you truly love to eat and build trust around having some of it now and then without guilt or fat regain.
Stop relying on the body scale to see how well you’re eating. The scale reflects your lifestyle over time, so if you simply focus on the ‘doing’ you need no scale to be your diet police.
When you give up on tracking your waist and skip stepping on the scale it’s important to take note of your choices in nutrition, your workouts and how you feel. You need to monitor your daily attention to practice and keep going. It’s very easy to forget and fall into old habits.
Accept that as a human you have free will and that means you might want to cheat on your own commitment. To end self sabotage and self defeat you have to give yourself a chance to ‘have a talk’ with yourself when you get tempted.
Be aware of your negative affirmations that impact your motivation in healthy eating! Instead of ‘I can’t have any ice cream because I end up eating 3 gallons in a day’, tell yourself ‘I love ice cream and that’s ok, I can have a little bit today, tomorrow too, the next day and all days of my life if I want. But today, I’ll skip it!’.
The point is to reduce the risk of feeling like you must seize the opportunity to enjoy what you crave right now since it’ll never come around again.
